Welcome to my first review of a figure! It seems I've managed to write a few of them without ever reviewing a figure http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m539ls3PV41qb1380.gif
With that, I've actually started up a Facebook page for updates here so head on over if you'd like to keep up to date with my reviews and other things.

Today we will be looking at the Nanami Chiaki 1/10 scale by empty. Retailing at ¥8500 and released 15/07/2014, she has big shoes to fill to make her seem worth the money. For those concerned, I will be hiding all direct references to the game story in spoiler tags.

Nanami is one of the characters - the Super High School Level/Ultimate Gamer - in Super Dangan-Ronpa 2 : Sayonara Zetsubou Gakuen. For those not aware, this game is being released in the West in a couple of months! I recommend getting it if you're a fan of Persona 4 or Ace Attorney. It's much better than the first game, in my opinion, both story-wise and in gameplay.

Packaging
This figure's box is very small. With a clear window box and 2 part blister, it's also very lightweight. It would be able to take a pretty decent beating, since the plastic box has a decent amount of give. Obviously don't let it get run over and you'll be fine.

The front of the box is very minimalistic. A good thing in my eyes, since you have a very clear view of both Nanami and Monomi. You could very easily display them in the box.

Both sides and the top are completely lacking in any kind of design. Very minimalistic, right? I feel like they could have put a bit more effort here, but it's not a major letdown, since the clear windows mean you can see the figure still.

On the back, you have all of your copyright information and a similar design to the front of the box. Where the design on the front of the box is printed onto the plastic, the back is all printed onto the inner card, meaning the box itself is actually completely blank here, too.

Looking closer at the back panel, you can see they've put a little bit more effort here into the design. A photo of the figure, the Kibougamine emblem and the title of the figure in Japanese:

Nanami Chiaki & Monomi"

Now let's open the box up! With a standard two-piece blister, it's par for the course. Adequate protection and the blister is sturdy.

Overall the packaging does its job. It protects the figure well enough and you can easily see your figure through the window box. They could have tightened the box size some more, but really, the box is already small enough that it wouldn't have been worth it. The extra padding between box and figure means more protection for Nanami.

Now let's open her up!

Base
Very simple base, some Tetris blocks and a single metal footpeg. I actually was incredibly nervous putting Nanami onto the base since it felt like it could break at any second. It didn't fit well on first connection and I had to attempt to connect her to the base several times. Once I had attached her, she felt sturdy enough but I'd still be really worried about the connection breaking.

I like the base because it fits Nanami's character perfectly as the SHSL/Ultimate Gamer, and because View spoilerHide spoilerof her punishment.. with the Tetris blocks... http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m539lj1zjZ1qb1380.gif. However it doesn't feel very sturdy and with that, it doesn't feel like it would keep her steady if there was a bump, which is what I feel is the most important part of a base.

Sculpting/Painting
This figure was based off a Garage Kit by the incredible Monocrea. This kit, is quite expensive, at a whopping ¥15000 for a 1/12 scale figure.

At first glance, Nanami looks okay. However, when I look closer at her, there are a lot of issues that really shouldn't be evident in a figure costing as much as Nanami does, for her scale.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/07/29/1062559.jpeg
Starting with her face and hair, you can see a few issues. There's excess paint in her hair and her mouth looks slightly off up close. The skin tone and decals look similar to what you would see on a prize figure, which is slightly upsetting. However, her decals are accurately positioned and, importantly, look right. Something I have an issue with a number of Danganronpa figures is that the eyes look slightly off. I'm very happy with Nanami's eyes.

The seam on her hair is pushed back a little bit, to the middle of her head. It's quite obvious when you look at it, but not an issue for me. Overall, the sculpting is pretty well done, considering the figure was increased in scale by about 1/5 of the original from 1/12 to 1/10.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/07/29/1062560.jpeg
The sculpting on the body is also well done, for the most part. There is a clear seam on the necktie, which with a bit more attention, could have been avoided. Other than that, the seam is well hidden on the jacket hood at the front. The bag straps are also done very well.
Nanami's pleated skirt and tucked-in shirt looks pretty good, the creases are accurate and the pleats look very nice. For this section I am very satisfied.

On the paintwork, everything is pretty on point as well - the main error is some painting inaccuracy on the shirt buttons. There aren't many colours on Nanami, so I would imagine it very difficult to get wrong, but I'm still happy. Nanami's socks and shoes are also sharp. On my figure's right thigh-high, there was a minor defect on the paintwork - I don't believe this would be common along each figure however as it appears to be due to the plastic.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/07/29/1062561.jpeg
Nanami's sides are very simple and have been done very well. Slight paint bleed on the cream lining of the jacket but other than that, everything is well done. Not much more to be said.

I like the back of this figure a lot. Her kitty backpack is excellent and everything is sharp. Her hood looks good and the pleats are accurate all the way back here as well. Her hair is also very well done here. I'm very happy with the shading and sculpting, it's sharp, done right and there's some extra detail that they could have very easily left out.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/07/29/1062563.jpeg
Now to Monomi!

Monomi is tiny! She comes attached to her base, so no issues there. However her leg is so thin that I would be worried that she'd break. Looking at her, I can't even fathom how small Monocrea's version would be.

Her sculpt and paint are very well done. There's no issues of note and the soft colouring and shading on her front and back from pink to white looks lovely and goes very well with Nanami. With the matching Tetris base, she can sit in many spots right next to Nanami.

Pose
The pose of this figure is great. There's a nice energy about it that I really enjoy. I particularly love the positioning of Nanami's left hand, for some reason. It looks incredibly cute. With how she's looking, she would be best viewed from the right, slightly above eye level.

For comparison's sake, I've added the Nendoroid Monokuma for scale (we don't keep bananas in the house often). Monomi is about the size of a Nendoroid petit! For the price, I really don't feel she was worth the money, however I am very happy to own her. It's a great addition to my Danganronpa collection and I hope this will mean we'll see the other Monocrea kits be released as prepainted 1/10 scales.

Thank you for reading another one of my reviews! I've also learned that I need to get a better macro lens to get nicer photos of my figures, so hopefully I'll be able to get one before my next review of a smaller figure! http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m539lf0EbS1qb1380.gif

Your DR obsession is my Love Live obsession so I understand ;w;

Katto6 anos atrás#2278854Yeah, if it wasn't for the DR obsession, I wouldn't have bothered ordering her. The quality, size and price don't match up. But she's a cutie-pie and it's the closest to a Monocrea kit I'll get (because they're pricey and so teeny) so it's okay :3
Thank ye :>

gamergibbons6 anos atrás#2277897Nice review! I have a feeling that the slanted base peg will cause some serious leaning issues in the future though. Other than that, she looks like a good buy.Thank you! Her leg and base are ABS so I would not worry about leaning :) I'd be more worried about it just snapping to be honest.
