Kracie Happy Kitchen Hamburger Set Review and experiences

MaakieMaakie2 anos atrásReview
Hello! Here I am again with another DIY snack/food kit review! This time the Hamburger set from Kracie's Happy Kitchen line.

Packaging

Again the packaging is very cute and colorful and the instructions on the backside are (thanks to the pictures) really easy to understand even when you can't read Japanese (like me).

Contents and preparation

The packaging for the contents can be cut up to be used as plates and packaging for the food.

This set contains:
- Plastic tray with 4 compartments (1 for measuring water, 1 for mixing, 1 for baking the fries and 1 for baking the beef and bread)
- Plastic cup for the drink
- Mixing spoon
- Cutting knife
- Potato powder
- Bread dough powder
- Beef patty powder
- Cheese powder
- Ketchup powder
- Soft drink powder

After a little bit of preparation for the packaging, you are ready to go! (Toothpicks are not included with this set, but really recommendable to add.)

Making the set

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ncl89ABedFk/Vg2JDn9l96I/AAAAAAAADo4/oslV3-xFpVw/s912-Ic42/IMG_5145.JPG

I started off with mixing the fries. They quickly became the structure and smell of mashed potatoes again, just like the smiley faces in the Pizza Set blog/24411 and they could quickly be put in the microwave.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-z8nXtup08Do/Vg2JFCxIHDI/AAAAAAAADpE/vzs_eKoFk28/s912-Ic42/IMG_5147.JPG

I then mixed the beef, which quickly got this really solid texture and strong smell off, well...real beef!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PYk751YKrpA/Vg2JGMZKT0I/AAAAAAAADpM/RoBXSCQGP-Y/s912-Ic42/IMG_5148.JPG

Mixing the dough for the bread was very interesting, as the mix itself was very liquid. At first I thought I screwed up, but after checking the instructions again, it also looked quite liquid on the example pictures.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lNfCoqr2YH4/Vg2JG971dzI/AAAAAAAADpU/3YlrXKJ4ZVk/s912-Ic42/IMG_5149.JPG

Ready to go into the microwave!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Q_GEv3gL7tM/Vg2KKbOQg1I/AAAAAAAADqw/ae0s0G-54QI/s912-Ic42/IMG_5150.JPG

Out of the microwave, the mix for the bread had changed greatly and had risen with a solid texture. When I read in the instructions it only needed 30 seconds of microwaving I though "nahh, this isn't going to work", but it did! Man, these food sets with their weird powders and liquids continue to amaze me!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QjJiwePGb_g/Vg2JIaXeKNI/AAAAAAAADpc/n8j4wuGU06k/s912-Ic42/IMG_5151.JPG

Meanwhile the potatoes got cooled enough that I could cut them up into fries. Their taste was exactly the same as the potato faces from the earlier mentioned Pizza set. So the fries actually tasted like mashed potatoes (still very nice).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Cj5PtLWUdoQ/Vg2JKGFZzYI/AAAAAAAADpk/kyh-jYlCs_4/s912-Ic42/IMG_5152.JPG

With the patties and bread still cooling off, I started to work on the cheese. Can you believe that powder that looks so weird and messy right now will become something that tastes like real cheese? For me, this keeps on being the strange part in all these kits (especially with the cheese in the Pizza set being so realistic in taste and structure).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0JQi5zfRtCk/Vg2JLhPF2xI/AAAAAAAADps/721Gv7YT4Ow/s912-Ic42/IMG_5153.JPG

And here we have it already, cheese!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nKC67zTvFBw/Vg2JM8Elr_I/AAAAAAAADp0/v9etbzs0jts/s912-Ic42/IMG_5154.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0oHFv37wu2Y/Vg2JOFX_DlI/AAAAAAAADp8/g5tSdvsBCdQ/s912-Ic42/IMG_5155.JPG

Now it was time to make the ketchup, which at the beginning was very liquid, but the more I stirred, the more it got a ketchup-like structure. It smelled really strongly of tomatoes.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UVmZgqmFEMw/Vg2JQyBRR9I/AAAAAAAADqU/T7PUZpHYcqo/s720-Ic42/IMG_5158.JPG

The soda was a simple powder that you put in the cup, followed by adding water until the edge of the cup. It tasted like coke/cola, but a lot sweeter.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uYakp0G0O9E/Vg2JPAMvTJI/AAAAAAAADqE/6O2CDVrA5TE/s912-Ic42/IMG_5156.JPG

With all the seperate parts being done, it was time to assemble the burger! Unfortunately, this is the part were I screwed up the most. Especially the bread was really hard to get outside of the mold (even though everything was cooled down). I messed up one of the breads completely, while the other looked...acceptable. The beef popped out really easily.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0U_0LZ2ins0/Vg2JQDxqWYI/AAAAAAAADqM/e42oJSQelso/s720-Ic42/IMG_5157.JPG

This was the best I could cut it up. According to the instructions I was also supposed to cut the beef into 4 patties instead of 2, but it looked way too thin, so I didn't want to risk it and just kept it like this.

Finished items and conclusion

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gMlhYDLuJOw/Vg2JSLbM2VI/AAAAAAAADqc/ABDOnniZA-4/s912-Ic42/IMG_5159.JPG

Even though the hamburger isn't the prettiest, I must admit this looks quite good! I think this is the best result I got so far from a food DIY kit! The cheese is a bit thick, but it was impossible to slice it thinner with the structure it had.

As for the taste, I covered the sides in the review, so I'll keep it to main item: the hamburger. It tastes just like the real thing, it's quite creepy! Especially the cheese and beef tasting so real is really weird! I enjoyed the taste of this kit more than the earlier reviewed Pizza kit blog/24411 , but still it won't beat the taste of a real hamburger. For me, a set like this is purely for fun and I mainly do it because I like the creative process and the looks of the end result. So if you're into some small crafts and like miniatures, I defenitely recommend this set! Do keep in mind you have to eat it someday, so make a lot of pictures from your final result! ;)

Thank you for reading this review! My next blog will be a loot post with mainly Fullmetal Alchemist items, hope you guys are looking forward to it!

victorviper (2 anos atrás) #3948579It's kind of scary how the finished product is not dissimilar in appearance to what you might get when ordering a hamburger at many fast-food places.
This was an interesting article, but I would have a hard time eating this, I think. Some artificial flavors are okay, but the idea of artificial beef flavor...***shudder***.

Luckily, I myself, never got one with a skewer in it to keep the stuff from falling apart lol. xD

These snacks are pretty small, so while I'm sure it's bad for my health I think "a small think like this can't hurt much, right?" My boyfriend however gets the complete creeps about this stuff and takes one teeny-tiny bite to taste it and then never touch it again. :P

jazzylin (2 anos atrás) #3948645I'm hesitantly curious of the Ingredient list for this.

My Japanese is not good enough to translate everything. As mentioned in the previous review: If someone is up for translating packaging ingredients so I can add it to this review and older reviews, I would love to hear!

Moro (2 anos atrás) #3945750Yessss, I'd been looking forward to this!
I originally thought this kit was supposed to be for another one of those cute candy things that just look like hamburger and fries, so when I saw that it was for making a real set of hamburger and fries I recoiled in horror thinking it was going to be awful! I'm really amazed it turned out so tasty. It certainly LOOKS good and realistic (though I think I'd have left out the cheese, myself.)

Ah, I didn't know you were following these blogs too! :D

Actually all the savory ones from Happy Kitchen will taste like the real thing! The Popin' Cookin' ones seem to be (almost) all candy. :)

Yeah the cheese was a bit much, haha! It tasted the same as the cheese from the pizza set, but at the pizza set I liked it more, because it was melted. If I would re-do this set, I would use less cheese and let it melt on top of the burger. :)

Yoruno (2 anos atrás) #3940462I adore your food reports. Candysan should think of hiring you.

Awww, thank you! I don't think they would be too happy that most of these reviews end in me not liking the taste or saying "the real thing is better", though! xD

Next Kracie will be a dessert?

That's nice to hear! :)

My next Candysan package is on it's way and will contain 4 DIY-sets, all of them sweets. xD
