Takasugi Shinsuke - G.E.M. - 1/8 (MegaHouse)Takasugi Shinsuke - G.E.M. - 1/8 (MegaHouse)

ShuuruShuuru6 anos atrásReview
Hello, today I will review 1/8 scaled figure Takasugi Shinsuke from the Gintama series.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e207/saybis/112855.jpg...http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e207/saybis/Takasugi.gif
Takasugi Shinsuke is the leader of the Kiheitai, an extremist group which he resurrected from the Joui Wars. The Kiheitai is a Joui faction bent on causing world destruction. Contrary to Katsura, who wants to find a better solution and a way to save the world, Takasugi only wants to destroy.

This figure was made by MegaHouse and was released on June, 2011. It was sculpted by Moriwaki Naoto.

Let's begin with the box!

Packaging: 9/10

Dimensions:
Height: 28 cm (11.02 in)
Width: 17,8 cm (7 in)
Depth: 14 cm (5.51 in)
Diagonal: 33,1 cm (13.03 in)

Here we have a nice package that can be shipped with SAL. MegaHouse chose a small, compact box for Takasugi. In the front, you can see the G.E.M. series logo, the name of the character in romaji and kanji and the name of the series. At the back you can see images of the figure displayed as well as how he looks with his haori and pipe. The window allows you to see Takasugi's full body and you can also see the Sunrise official sticker (actually printed in the box). Takasugi, being a dark character, has a black and violet box, colours that suit will really well.

From the sides you can see Takasugi's full body displayed showing us his haori and katana. Some flying sakura petals were added to give extra details to the box. You can also read the character's name in romaji.

http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167001.jpeg...http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167210.jpeg
Nothing impressive or distinctive on the bottom but the upper part has a butterfly's silhouette. A really nice detail that supports the theme of the figure and the character. You can also see Takasugi's name in romaji.

http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167214.jpeg...http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167216.jpeg
A typical two-piece blister was used to protect the figure. MegaHouse used tape to avoid the blister opening by itself. The blister only had four joining points so the tape was appreciated. They used a different two-piece blister for the haori, it was secured nicely with tape.

A view from the sides.

Here you can see his katana, saya and pipe inside the blister. MegaHouse tread all of these accessories carefully covering them with tape and hard plastic to avoid unnecessary movements.

http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167619.jpeg...http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167387.jpeg
Here you can see Takasugi's haori inside its blister as well as his face.

http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167212.jpeg...http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167381.jpeg
Inside the box you have the character's name and a beautiful black and violet pattern. You can use this as a background for Takasugi if you want. You can also see Takasugi's body inside the blister as well as the base and the items.

Base: 8/10

http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167621.jpeg...http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167623.jpeg
As expected from MegaHouse's G.E.M. Series, they used a round base for Takasugi. The pattern is really beautiful, with those butterflies flying around. Also, the red colour stands out nicely. Its diameter is 10,4 cm

http://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333167625.jpeg
It is easy to mount and unmount Takasugi on his base. You will not have troubles unmounting him but you cannot display him without his base. He does not have good balance by himself, even more if you are going to display with his haori.

Let's start with his black, short hair. Moriwaki did a great job with it and it matches perfectly the anime character design. The pictures I took do not make it any justice but if some shots you can see that it even has a metal purple painting, so it is not that black but it is just like the anime design. The bandage was nicely detailed and it goes all the way round his head.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168155.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168485.jpeg
I do have a little issue with his face. It looks a little weird and that smirk does not do Takasugi any justice but maybe one of his typical wide grins would have looked weird with this pose... Oh, well. As I was saying, his face is not one my favourite parts of this figure but it is not that I completely dislike it. He just looks too normal without his crazy grin of destruction.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333170166.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168615.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168491.jpeg
Moving on with his kimono, it is really well done. It is nice how it opens and allows you to see Takasugi's chest, he is really skinny but you can see a little muscle there. His neckbone is a killer and it looks absolutely fantastic. I could not take a picture but you can also see his belly button if you spy a little. Those little details are great and appreciated. I love manly backs and I definitely love Takasugi's. The butterfly patters were done nicely and the butterflies themselves shine with a golden painting, truly beautiful. Not a single crease out of place and the way his sleeves bent with the wind was executed nicely.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168489.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168493.jpeg
Talking about his sleeves, the only thing that bothered me a little was the little to no effort to hide the joining between his arms. But, if you consider them sewing points, it is not that distractive. Besides, they are mostly hidden when Takasugi is wearing his haori.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168617.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168619.jpeg
I surely love men with good nails and surely Takasugi owns them. That nail polish was a great detail and stands out really well. His hand and fingers were sculpted nicely and they are really skinny. I believe that, Takasugi being a villain, it is normal for him to be thin almost to the bones.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333170168.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168621.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168623.jpeg
Here you can see his obi wrapped around his waist. The transition between his kimono and obi is really well hidden and that knot is beautiful. Those lines near his butt also give a nice effect. I am glad Moriwaki did not give him a flat butt.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168938.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168942.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168940.jpeg
His right hand matches the left one perfectly and is it also as boney as the left one. Takasugi's nails also are polished and this is the hand that holds his katana but we are going to talk about it later on.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333170834.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168944.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168946.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169193.jpeg
The lower part of his kimono looks as good as the upper part and you can see more of those beautiful butterflies. I could not find a single crease out of place and I love how his butt stands out under the kimono. A really beautiful sight.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169195.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169197.jpeg
I was a bit disappointed when I saw that his kimono was not going to let me see a little more of his legs but, oh well, it is not like you cannot peep under it sometimes to see them.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169199.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169201.jpeg
Closer shots of his butterflies.

Because everyone was doing it...
View spoilerHide spoilerhttp://myfigurecollection.net/image/Shuuru1333171352.jpeg
If you peep under his kimono, you will be able to see Takasugi's white fundoshi. His underwear, if we compare it to Zura's, is not that detailed. His legs, on the other hand, look gorgeous and his butt cheeks look totally touchable. A shame he is not a cast-off.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333170836.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169364.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169366.jpeg
No issues to report here. His feet look fantastic and are as boney as his hands. His geta were nicely detailed and I am glad that MegaHouse used a separated part of plastic for the cord instead of painting it on his feet.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169368.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169370.jpeg
If you look close, you can see that the toe nails are also polished. His toes look realistic and they did not screw up with the sizes. I also have to mention Moriwaki gave him those boney legs that combine perfectly with the rest of him.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169372.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169651.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168942.jpeg
The first non-optional items that come with Takasugi are his katana and saya. The installation of both items is pretty straight-forward so you will not have any troubles with them. Make sure not to break his katana, because it is made of soft plastic and it might break if you are too rough. The katana and saya were sculpted nicely and they look realistic enough.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168619.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333168617.jpeg
The second non-optional item is the pipe Takasugi always carries with him. It was sculpted with care and it is nicely detailed. The installation of his pipe is a little tricky, because you are supposed to lay the top part on his thumb. Myself, I could not do it properly so I improvised a little. I hope you have more skills than I.

Here is the only optional part of this figure, his haori. It was beautifully sculpted and is probably my favourite part of this figure. Every crease that looks flowing with the wind is marvelous and the golden paint shines and stands out wonderfully from the black.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333170842.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333171084.jpeg
The installation is pretty straight-forward so you will not have any problems. You probably want to be careful with the risk of paint transfer because the inner part of the haori is all black. The haori is made of PVC so there is little risk of breaking something during the installation.

Painting: 9/10

As expected from MegaHouse, they gave us a nice final product with this line of male figures. I loved this painting from the care the butterflies were painted to the metal painting of his hair. MegaHouse was right with the colours of his kimono and haori and all stands out nicely.

Posing: 9/10

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169655.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333171271.jpeg...http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Shuuru1333169657.jpeg
A little boring, is not it? But I must say that he is charmer with his haori on. MegaHouse could have given us a more dynamic pose, but I guess adding the pipe, one of his trademark items would not have worked then. This pose works and does not take too much space, which is important.

Enjoyment: 9/10

I really enjoyed this figure. I have to say that he may be a little boring if you do not have any attachment to his character whatsoever so think it twice before buying him. What I loved from him is the option of having him displayed with his haori or not. Myself, I prefer the haori, but I will have to change it when I run out of space someday.

If you had doubts about getting this figure, I hope this had helped you.

Next review will be ALTAiR Orihara Izaya so look forward to it!

frickenchickenGreat review! :D For some reason I really like this figure though I'm not a big fan of Takasugi.
The only thing that annoys me is the pipe, no matter what I tried it would fall out sooner or later and in the end it got lost somewhere. So I made a new one for him. ^^

Thank you for reading my review! It is a shame you lost the pipe! I had troubles putting on his pipe as well, I managed to do it but I did it the wrong way for it to stay still. Congratulations on doing a new pipe for him! ^^

kippy666Nice review. I'm upset that Gintoki's stand doesn't look as good though.
thank you for reading. It is true, Gin's base does not look that good, does it?

SazakoReally Nice and Detailed review! I read it all. Keep them coming/up the Good Work!
