The scariest milestone... | USPS WoesThe scariest milestone... | USPS WoesDiary

I had my first AmiAmi pre-order on the way and didn't bat an eye that it was late, seeing as a lot of people were having the same problem. What I WAS worried about...

HAPPENED.

RIP AmiAmi's card.

I feel like a lot of collectors go through this at least once, so it looks like that milestone is reached. Not gonna lie, though: I PANICKED. Shipping wasn't that bad for this, and it wasn't much but it's still money I spent and I've never had a package arrive so pummeled before. The stuff from China that also came today was in better condition, and it was wrapped in just a bag.

I mean not only was it dented, but it looked like it had also been drenched on one side with water. Rain? Spilled water? Idk.

What settled my panic a little is that I knew I only ordered one figure and some tapes. As I predicted, it was the side holding the tapes and such that got dented. Thanks to the bubble wrap (thank you AmiAmi for not going for your usual paper) the figure's box was dry and dent free, and Aoba himself is perfect.

The knick knacks made it safe in sound as well.

I've never felt so betrayed by the US postal service but hey, it happens. (Of course I won't be saying that when I order something much more expensive . . .) I'm just glad it wasn't as bad as OTHERS I've seen on this site . . .y'all got me paranoid lol.

I still wonder how it can get so wet though yours is kinda fine... good thing your stuffs were fine :D Surprised Amiami didn't use their damn paper ^^"
You don't worry about it until it happens to you, lol. Good luck on that.
I'm really glad that, for whatever reason, AmiAmi decided not to use just the paper this time. If it had been just the paper I doubt the figure's box would have made it.

maron-makaron4 anos atrás#7640741I worry about this in the back of my head. I haven't yet received a heavily damaged package, and I've never had one lost either. I feel like my good mail fortune should be up by now so I'm wary. These demolished package stories generally have happy endings though (laughs nervously), right? I'm glad your loot is safe! Those tapes look cute!
I've seen some nasty ones on this site where the person didn't care for the box, but for me the box is part of the package so if it had been damaged my story wouldn't have been as happy, lol. Mine definitely wasn't as bad, thankfully.

archyarchy4 anos atrás#7651754I don't think it's USPS fault. More so AmiAmi's fault for bad packagIng. Every time someone shows a soaking wet box received from Japan, it's almost always from AmiAmi.
If the box is thick enough and all the boxes' edges are sealed with strong wide shipping tape, it can withstand a fair amount of water. A decent cardboard box, well sealed, can resist water on outside only with no water damage inside. I've thrown sealed boxes in pools and they float. Not so thick cardboard with water leaking through any unsealed edges is what causes water damage to shipping boxes. Cardboard is weakened when water hits it on the inside and outside simultaneously.
Since I get packages in bad weather all the time that aren't being shipped from overseas I don't doubt that a lot of packages get damaged on the way from Japan, but there are cases where wherever they're stored isn't proper for the weather and they get soaked already in the country. AmiAmi's packages was pretty fine - I mean it took me a while just to get it open, but as soon as it got wet any regular box will fold. Most people don't ship with all the extra tape and such. The boxes they use probably aren't the best, but definitely not the worst I've seen.

Kinaesthetic4 anos atrás#7608057Wait 'till you get a package that is so water-soaked that they have to deliver it in a plastic bag to you because it has practically disintegrated. Had that happen to me once. But thankfully it wasn't with any figures or the like. But it is really annoying when it gets to that level.I'd FLIP. That's one condition I won't be able to handle and hope never happens.

take1234 anos atrás#7608823At least your package doesn't look like it's been through Niagara falls. I can't believe what crappy USPS does with packages sometimes. Are they literally running them over with their trucks or something. We had rain recently but c'mon...I've had Amazon packages come in worse weather just fine, so I suspect it happened on the way from Japan somehow. It's still really disconcerting.

gayrell4 anos atrás#7609394Nooo, not the Amiami card :O!!
I'm glad Aoba & Ren made it okay, especially given the state of that box, but the Amiami card is a serious bummer.
I've only gotten one other so it's not that bad for me since I don't collect them. I know tons of other people do, though, which is why it hurt when I saw lol.

reversedoll4 anos atrás#7609410last year i got a wet box for ITEM #78593 in the mail. she had been in california in customs while they had a nasty rainstorm, so the box was soaked by the time it got to me. thankfully the figure and her box were completely fine because of hobby search's packing, but boy it's always terrifying to receive a wet boxThank goodness your figure was safe!
