Update : Thank you to everyone for the advice, suggestions, and personal experience! I'm a little at ease now about moving my Detolfs. Between plastic wrap, bubble wrap, and some blankets,
I'm hoping everything will go smoothly. Again, thanks a bunch! ^^

I know this question has probably been asked about a dozen times already, but I really need some advice.

I have two Detolf glass cabinets from Ikea : [urls1.tsuki-board....][/url]

I'm supposed to be moving this weekend, and I wanted to know....

What is the best way to safely move these cabinets?

I really don't want to disassemble them if I don't absolutely have to.
I was thinking about maybe using bubble wrap and a sheet/blanket (if that would even work)

My uncle is supposed to help me move them, so that'll definitely help.

But I'm just really nervous about moving and transporting them. The last thing I want is for them to break or shatter.

I would really appreciate any and all advice or recommendations from fellow figure collectors who own Detolfs, or have faced this same issue before.

Thanks!~ ^^

Thank you for the advice! ^^
Originally, we were planning on hiring a moving company. The realtor originally told us that we'd be able to move in within 30 days, but that changed to two weeks. That caught us off guard, since it was such short notice. And unfortunately, all the moving companies were booked. That's why we're just going to rent a U-Haul and move everything ourselves. It's good to hear there wasn't any damage to your Detolfs, which makes me more optimistic about moving mine ^u^

Jenthehen3 anos atrás#22768963I'm sure everyone has given good advice, but I moved with detolfs and I just took out the shelves and wrapped them carefully in towels in a box. We used a moving company, but all they did was wrap the shelves in comforter type blankets with duct tape and lift them and put them in and out of the moving van. There was no damage :)

It's not an odd question at all! ^^ Personally, I put all my figures back into their original boxes. Then, I put all my figures/figure boxes into storage totes / plastic storage containers to make moving them all easier. Disassembling figures and putting them back into their boxes is definitely time consuming and a bit stressful. But I think it's worth the time and effort to assure no figures get damaged during transit. At least that's my own personal opinion. You're definitely right about one thing... moving with figures is very stressful ^^"

Hentai_Son3 anos atrás#22782911Another odd question on the topic of moving, for those with huge collections whats the best way to move mass amounts of figures? Is putting them all in the boxes the best way to go even with time and space? Moving with figures is so stressful ;v;"

Ah, thank you so much for the info!
I was wondering what the best way would be to keep the doors shut. I was thinking about using tape, but then I feared that tape may leave a sticky residue behind on the glass. I didn't even think about using plastic wrap, so thank you for the suggestion! I also forgot about the Detolfs being made with tempered glass... so that puts my mind at ease a little ^^
Just to be safe, I'll probably use plastic wrap, bubble wrap, and maybe a blanket to transport them.
Again, thank you so much! ^^

felixhobbies3 anos atrás#22735709Just moved 2 months ago. I had 3 Detolfs moved, but I had hired movers (the Detolfs were not the only things I had moved). I was nervous about moving them as well, but they all made it safe and sound. First, if it isn't already obvious, remove all the glass shelves. The movers then wrapped each Detolfs with plastic wrap, top to bottom, which keep the door shut. That was all. The did not use any bubble wrap. Maybe place some mats or towels around anything your Detolfs are touching or stacked next too. The glassed is tempered, so it can take some bumps while you are moving.
Good luck. Hope it all goes well.

Thank you so much for the advice! c:
I already planned on using bubble wrap on each individual shelf and transporting them separately. But I will definitely take your advice, and also wrap them in extra shirts just to add a little extra protection.
I don't have too far to go with them, maybe only 15 minutes away from where I currently live. We plan on renting a U-Haul truck, so hopefully everything will go smoothly. Again, thanks a bunch! ^^

Palluxz3 anos atrás#22739547You can move them just the way they are and yes you can bubble wrap them. Just make sure to take out the inner glass shelves and place and move them separately, you can wrap them aswell with bubble wrap or put some old clothes in between to keep them from scratching. The best and safest way to move these is by moving them personally, obivously not everyone can afford to do that since it depends on distance and space but if you could then thats definetly the best option.
Lastly, watch out when you carry them,ALWAYS GRAB THEM BY THE WODDEN END. Also make sure your uncle or someone else does help you becuase it is a bit heavier than what it seems, good luck!

Thank you for the suggestion! ^^
Luckily, I don't have many steps to go up/down with the Detolfs. Only a few. I already have a hand truck, so that will definitely come in handy when I have to move them into the U-Haul truck ^^"

Heldrik3 anos atrás#22744845Personally, when I moved to my current apartment five years ago, I did this: remove the glass shelves and pack them in bubble wrap, carefully lay down the Detolf with the door facing up on a blanket, carefully go down four floors while holding said blanket and put it in the truck, then do the exact same thing in reverse.
Looking back now, it might've been a tad easier if we directly grabbed the wood...
