First 4 Figures Poor Construction Woes

OceanRoostOceanRoost1 mês atrásDiary
It's not every day you wake up to something heartbreaking relating to your figures, but it seems Monday was my day.

The figure in question I'll be talking about is First 4 Figures Ookami: ITEM #335889.

I woke up monday to find a disaster, the orange fire disk had snapped and broken in the night. Leaving the metal peg in the statue, looking like this:

Now this wasn't my first problem with this figure, far from it. I've had to glue Issun onto his peg hole because his peg broke off as soon as it went in. I've also had issues with the right front paw and the flower that falls in front/over it. The flower in question has a tendency to 'wilt' over the claw and if you're not eagle eye sharp when you take the wolf off the base, you can have this happen just from looking at it:

In that picture I've re-sculpted the flower but it can drape itself over almost the entire paw.

Now after my initial panic I began to do some investigating as to why this happened and I found some bad design choices behind this. When I looked closer I found the metal peg that goes into the main part of the statue only goes part way up into the fire resin of the mirror. It's not whats holding it up. What's actually holding it up is this:

Two hollow wires. Two hollow wires to hold up the entire mirror part. Now I've worked in various crafting situations, stage crafts and personal crafts ect., and this choice baffles me. They almost look like small electrical wires, but this is the non-electrical version. They are also very very brittle. Just touching them with my hands for these pictures had them breaking.

So to sum this all up, be very very very careful with this figure. Maybe even use something else to prop up this piece to keep the weight off this part. All in all Good luck to everyone else!

I got into contact with F4F customer support and was basically told to go screw myself and take it to a hobby shop. (I live in the middle of nowhere, not happening)

Alphadread (1 mês atrás) #27689542Ugh, it's painful to see this happen to such a beautiful figure. I would have expected a far more solid construction for the price. I was heartbroken when I had to cancel my order for the exclusive version, but I guess I'll be warier of F4F figures now.
Sorry to hear that customer support isn't doing anything for you, I hope you can repair this goddess so she can stand in all her glory once again.
Thank you, honestly I've never had a customer support so unwilling to work with customers as F4F. Their email responses just seem like copy paste send offs to me.

OceanRoost (1 mês atrás) #27642946Thank you for your comment! Is there any particular bond glue you'd recommend? I've tried Zap-a-Gap and it just hasn't worked on this statue at all.

Since it's such a heavy piece I'd use two-part epoxy glue on it.

I like looking at F4F stuff, but they are very expensive so I haven't bought one. Thanks for the heads up, if I ever cave and want to order a figure. I'll have to keep in mind how delicate the contruction might be, depending on what features the figure might have.

OceanRoost (1 mês atrás) #27655172Sorry to hear about your mirror too, though I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having this issue. Do you mind me asking which glue you used for this?

It has been a while, but I believed I used a very light coating of superglue gel (does not run like some glues) and held it in place for several minutes. Of course, mine was not damaged this badly, so you might need something stronger.

SkiaEsh (1 mês atrás) #27654246I can't say I am surprised. My Amaterasu has not broken yet, but I noticed the mirror was leaning, and when I checked it, some of the plastic had cracked around the metal rod. I glued it back and have not any more problems, but I have accepted that I will probably be forced to have a professional repair her or replace her one day when it breaks for good.Sorry to hear about your mirror too, though I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having this issue. AkibaMelon (1 mês atrás) #27650343Ugh such a shame >__> It's really a wonderful figure judging from its looks, but crafting and beauty should go hand in hand when it comes to such pricey items. You're handling it very well though!Thank you, I was quite heart broken but after the recent mass tragedy that was the Cardcaptor Sakura Good Smile Figure, I'm a little better prepared to deal with tings.

I had the same problem with that flower, ended up snapping off the end claw as well. While I managed to glue it back on, I've never removed Ammy from her base again out of sheer paranoia. The decision to put it so close to her paw just seemed like terrible design choice as either one of them couldve broken.

I've heard of Issun breaking for some owners but never the disc so it is rather odd. Hopefully you'll be able to repair her.

How strange. :( I've had my Amaterasu for years now and have never had a single problem with her.

I hope you can find a way to repair her.
