Exclusive Seto Kaiba -Duel With Destiny- ver. 1/8 figure

solluxcaptorsolluxcaptor2 meses atrásReview
Something a little different today for a review! Usually I try to review newer figures while they're still relevant and people are possibly contemplating buying them or not. But this time I got a figure I was REALLY excited about and I know since it's an exclusive one that not many people own it and it's kind of hard to find information about. So I wanted to make my own review! :D (And also show off how glorious he is hehe)
Of course I'm talking about the one and only Kaiba Seto from Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kotobukiya's ArtFX J Exclusive Duel with Destiny version.

First off the video version... I tried out something a little different this time! I wanted to make an unboxing video and a showcase video but I figured that it would be kind of pointless to make two and merged them. If you want to watch the unboxing/video review part then you can watch from the start, just skip to 1:52 if you only want to watch the showcase! I hope this is ok as a format, I'll probably still be doing showcase only for the most part but I wanted to try this :D

(Full screen it if you can because the embedded video is tiny!)
I'm slowly becoming a little bit more comfortable talking to the camera... ;;

I'll start with some photos of the box!
https://s17.postimg.org/v6vf19fcf/DSCF3297.jpg
The front has a big window on it so you can see all of Kaiba with the optional Duel Disk piece, you can also see a matching picture of Kaiba himself and some text about the figure including that it is the exclusive Duel with Destiny version. On the side and back there are two windows, one is simply a circle (not pictured) and the other on the back is quite interesting, it resembles the dragon wing of a Blue Eyes White Dragon! And finally there is a side with a very eye catching design and picture of the figure itself on it, I would actually display the box to show this side because it is so nice to look at.

https://s17.postimg.org/d42ca1427/DSCF3306.jpg
Inside comes these instructions on how to replace the regular arm with the Duel Disk arm! It's a simple process but I always appreciate some instructions with interchangeable pieces, sadly the ones that don't include them are usually the ones that need them... I had fears that the arm would be hard to switch out but it was VERY simple and easy to do!

Here he is in full, I really do think he is amazing and I am so happy to own this exclusive version *____* Everything is absolutely superb and impressive - the confident pose and expression, his glorious flowing coat, the overall sculpt and the paint which gives a shiny effect on his coat.

https://s17.postimg.org/lz36kj5pb/DSCF3235.jpg
From behind you can really see the shiny paint effect on the coat! It really makes him stand out but it's not too distracting since it's only the coat. So luxurious looking and his permanently flowing coat looks as impressive as ever. From this angle you can also see that the cards in his hand have print on them.

https://s17.postimg.org/is8n0wdjj/DSCF322.jpg
And a close up on his amazing face, of course! Isn't he just perfect?
I love the facial expression he has in this version. As much as I love the glaring expression in the regular version, this one is just so full of life and classic Kaiba. You can practically hear his laugh through the figure and the emotion really adds to the feeling of this moment being taken straight from a duel in progress.

https://s17.postimg.org/wlwzpzo5b/DSCF3275.jpg
Looking at the small details a bit, every little detail was captured excellently down to the KC emblem on his coat and the duel disk itself is especially impressive. So many small details on it like the life point counter, it looks amazing!

https://s17.postimg.org/5bboiay5r/DSCF3270.jpg
The base is simple but effective. It matches with both the exclusive and non-exclusive figures in this set (besides the Egypt versions) so you can pair any of them together. There are so many combinations for setting up duel situations with these figures, I really like how the matching bases enable this effectively.

In conclusion, I am absolutely happy with this figure! This exclusive version was one of my must haves in my wishlist and I was lucky to find one for a good price, it can be pretty pricey in aftermarket but I think it is worth every penny. Kaiba is a really important character to me and this is definitely an amazing addition to my collection.
I'm going to collect the whole set and I feared the exclusives would be near impossible to get ahold of so I'm happy to have the one I really wanted already. Please let me know if you enjoyed this review! I would really appreciate feedback because I'm always trying to improve my reviews, let me know if you prefer reviews of new figures or older ones or both.

Maakie (há 18 horas) #30903295I know it's shameful, but I like BMG's design a lot, even though she is 'just' a mascot (except for her small role in the Egypt arc, where she is, to be blunt, also a bit generic). Still I can't help but like her and also think about cosplaying her every once in a while. :P And yes, she indeed looks like Toon Dark Magician Girl as her Cu-Poche, especially with the cute little book together with her! <3
It will take a while before I get to mine though, because I have many other franchises to drop money on first. xD And that is so nice with your Kaiba ita bag, I will check out the blog for sure! :D (Don't feel insulted if it takes a while, because I am behind on reading blogs. :P ) I have been thinking about maybe a mini Mokuba Kaiba itabag considering he got a bit of merchandise with his new look of Dark Side of Dimensions. :) I liked him a lot there! I also love Noah Kaiba but nobody cares about him.

It's not shameful at all! I think DMG is pretty cute, just a little overrated IMHO, but she's cute nobody could ever deny that. I personally really like Kuriboh as a mascot character, I just think Kuriboh is too cute ahaha.

I'd really love to see your ita bags!! Mokuba would be SO cute, my friend made a Blue Eyes White Dragon one so I feel like that could complete the trio ahaha. I would love to see a Noah one too! Actually the Virtual Reality arc is one of my favourites :D I wish it got more love and appreciation. It's a highlight of the series for me! (But I love all of it so it's hard to choose... I always get excited to watch that arc again though so it's definitely a favourite)

If you want to see it I can send you a message when I put my blog up, but no pressure to read it right away or anything of course :D

solluxcaptor (3 dias atrás) #30901405Well I can't really blame it ahaha especially since her stuff will sell, it just makes me a little salty when she gets more attention than the actual main characters with figures :P I don't often change my poseables around either to be honest, but I like the Cu-Poche because it's just so cute looking! Reminds me of the Toon Dark Magician Girl with those proportions :D
Oooh I would love to see that!! I actually have a Kaiba ita bag and I was going to make a post about it on here soon!

Maakie (3 dias atrás) #30901369Well, BMG has always been the mascot of the series (next to Kuriboh), so we can't get rid of her getting tons of items and figures. xD ITEM #338779 is indeed also very nice! The Cu-Poche is fun, but I'm personally not a huge action-figure fan, so I'm barely changing her poses/accessoires. ^^'' But yeah, that is personal taste.
I have slowed down on buying new YGO stuff except for an occasional doujin or keychain/small item here and there. When I get some other collections more completed, I want to get to itabagging for my most fave characters. Luckily a lot more random knick-knacks are now also being released thanks to the push of Dark Side of Dimensions!

solluxcaptor (7 dias atrás) #30897000That's true, the two would look amazing together, I still need to track down exclusive Yugi myself! Only other downside to these exclusive ones are they're really difficult to find if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for one ;; I got lucky and found a used one going for pretty much retail price.
Yeah that's completely fair! I guess I'm lucky that I don't care much for the DMG figures, I honestly think she has way more than she needs ahaha I'll only pick up ITEM #338779 and the Cu-Poche I think. Right now I'm really focusing on YGO in my collection but if I wasn't I'd find it hard to keep up too!

Maakie (8 dias atrás) #30896448This Kaiba is for sure very different compared to the exclusive Yuugi. But I still think I would want to buy also the matching Yuugi to have a different kind of duel displayed than the original set I now have. :)
Maaan, just too many YGO things and not enough space and money. >.< I'm happy for so much new merchandise, but sometimes it becomes a bit too much (especially with the big wave of BMG's not very long ago).

solluxcaptor (12 dias atrás) #30893501I'm happy I could help! I think though this isn't a HUGELY different figure from the original, it's definitely different enough to be worth picking up IMHO! Considering the other one has to be displayed from a side/back angle and this one is facing forward, which personally I prefer because you can see his whole outfit even if the other pose is really cool. It definitely has a completely different effect :D
I am a little biased though because Kaiba is my favourite ahaha but I would say this one is worth picking up!

Maakie (12 dias atrás) #30893490Thank you for this review! Considering I own (and am planning on reviewing for a while :P ) the original Seto Kaiba release, I was very interested in this. This exclusive version has been on my wishlist for a long time, but I never got to buying it because other figures went first and I 'already owned' the very likewise original version. It's nice to know his quality is about the same as the original...so now my doubt is still there...how 'complete' do I want my Koto YGO collection to be if I will ever pick this one up, hrmm.

Lilie (2 meses atrás) #28593169Hmm... you need to get few soft lights! there's small softlights like these: ahnpan.com/2016... and bigger ones that have big stands to hold them. I'm not sure what would be best for your setup, but soft lights are what you need IMO.
That's a good point-! You could do a mix of newer figure reviews and occasionally do older figure reviews.... like your doing now (LOL) anyway ~ keep going your reviews are awesome ~!

ohhh thank you for the suggestion! I really want some of those for videos and photos too, it would improve my highly amateur setup a lot ;;

And I'm glad you enjoy both! I do like doing reviews for older or obscure figures sometimes even if they're not popular, if I can provide extra information to one person I'm happy :D Or sometimes by the time I get around to finishing a review the figure might be old... I've had photos and clips of the Remilia prize figure since it came out but uni has me too busy to finish that one yet :(

solluxcaptor (2 meses atrás) #28590585I'm trying to work on editing them better and becoming more confident when using my voice but it's a slow process.
I would love some lighting tips! :D I know it's a weaker point of my videos right now since I'm actually just filming next to a window for light. I really want to improve it though ;;
