! There is a wall of text in the beginning! If you want to see the figure + pictures and not the background information, you can scroll down a bit. ;) !

The pantyshots in this review has been put in spoiler, so this is a sfw review!

Welcome to my review! Today I will be talking about a figure of Rosette Christopher ENTRY #3838 from Chrono Crusade (regularly also written as Chrno Crusade) ENTRY #502 ! This figure ITEM #11154 is made by Aruze ENTRY #10916 .

Before I begin with this review, I want to start with an important note. This figure is a variation of ITEM #11155 which I reviewed in BLOG #38606 . This review is a comparison of the two, with the grades of this one also based on what the other one scored. To get the full story, I recommend reading the review in BLOG #38606 before reading this one!

Background

Chrono Crusade is a manga and anime series, that was very popular in the early 2000's. Because of the good localisation, it was for a lot of people in my area one of their first manga or anime. The series takes place in the roaring 20s in America, where a demonic threat is taking place. The Order of Magdalene is a part of the Catholic Church, which fights these demons. Don't expect any church choirs chanting away demons, no, this is an action packed series with nuns wielding weapons. Although the series seems a bit over the top sometimes, it has a very nice story, with a plot that goes deeper than it would initally seem. Interesting to add is that the manga and anime finished around the same time, meaning both versions have very different endings, as the anime could not take from the manga plot at some point anymore. I personally prefer the manga ending, but I think the one of the anime is quite beautiful too. If you read or saw one of the two, I definitely recommend to check out the other one too!

Rosette (sometimes written as Rosetto) Christopher is one of the nuns from the Order of Magdalene. View spoilerHide spoilerShe has a partnership with the demon Chrono (which refers to the name of the anime), in her goal of finding her missing brother. She is an often reckless girl, who gets in trouble with the head nun, but she always shoots after her goals with huge enthusiasm. Even though she sometimes comes off as ditzy, she is a very lovable character.

About the release/manufacturer

Manufacturer Aruze ENTRY #10916 seems to have been short-lived. This specific figure is a crane prize from a prize item set that consists of at least 3 figures and 3 keychains. Aruze has only made 32 figures in it's lifetime, of which 21 were bigger sized prize/scaled (3 of them Chrono Cruade related). Most of their quality seems to be below average even for the releases back in those days. For reference, you could get way nicer detailed figures for around the same price back then, such as: ITEM #4714 , ITEM #5206 , ENTRY #10916 and ITEM #3910 .

The reason why and how I got her

I a very fond of this franchise, and have made it one of my goals to try and collect as much official material as possible from it. I bought this figure and the matching ITEM #11154 about 2 years ago when I did a big proxy order from Japan, the rest of the loot I had back then you can see here: BLOG #20246 .

Original art

While the other figure has artwork she is directly modelled after, this one does not. It is very clear that this figure was also made after her anime-look, so for reference you can see a picture of that below.

The box of this one is a lot more beat-up. It uses the same prize figure design.

This figure was also sealed and never opened before. It had the same stickiness after unboxing.

The figure also has a big amount of protective blisters. This picture also shows some of the sticky spots shining through, you can especially see it halfway the bottom part of her dress. Her dress and cap were more sticky than her other parts. My guess is because those parts are PVC only, they don't seem to be painted.

Very noticeable is that this figure seems a lot more bland than the other one from the set. Her slightly different hair sculpt also covers up more of her face.

When you put both of them next to eachother, it's visible that they re-used the same sculpt in the lower body, the face and the base. Luckily there still seem to be quite some differences to call these seperate figures!

Looking at all the details!

Starting again with the face, we have the same 'dead looking' eyes. Interesting though, is that the sculpt and paint of the hair seems a lot cleaner on this one than my other Rosette.

The ear is also sculpted the same, but yikes! Does it look big without any bangs partially covering it. The attachment of the cap is done a lot neater on this one, but there are some more errors in her hair paint here.

Unfortunately the paint is just as crude at the top of the cap.

A plus on the posing of this Rosette is that you can see a lot more of the details on her upper body. The painting of the small details varies from pretty well done to slightly crude. Most of the details are quite nice in sculpt, but the quality of the paint brings them down a bit.

Her bodice is simple, but the bags are nicely done in sculpt and I love how her waist looks. Also over here you can see some letdowns in painted details. I do have to point here that the cross around her neck, seems to be fully handpainted (no sculpt) and is quite nice for that.

I'm pretty convinced (but don't have 100% proof) that both of her arm sculpts (including the hands) are re-used for this figure, but they changed the posing by removing any sight of what would be an elbow joint. I know I can't expect a lot of details on an older prize figure, but it's quite weird to see almost perfect cylinders as arms.

Very interesting to point out is that the sculpt and paint of her gun look a lot better on this Rosette than the other one. The paint seems to be a lot less thick, making the details stand out better.

For the other hand, the sculptor(s) and manufacturer should be ashamed to throw out a figure on the market like this. It looks like a mannequin glove hand.

The front and back use the same sculpt as the other Rosette (where my camera has a really hard time to focus on). It is nice with a lot of wrinkles and a teeny tiny bit of fanservice for her behind.

Where the other Rosette blocks a bit of the view of her chest, this one blocks a bit of the view on her legs. On the left side there is quite a visible seam line, while the right side is a lot cleaner.

This figure has the same clunky shoe design and posing. The paint on this one is a bit less well done than the other one.

Interesting with this one, is that the panties are a lot less visible when the figure is viewed from the bottom. Even though the leg posing is the same, it seems that the skirt is stuck along her body a lot more. It could be specific to my copy how the lower pieces of the fabric of the dress were glued to the main figure.

Also here you can move the dress a bit to get a look at her panties (not recommendable). It almost looks like she is wearing a smaller type of panty on this figure, but I rather think it's parts of the figure that they forgot to paint.

The base is 100% the same, with even the same pegs for the feet posing as nothing is changed there.

The Points

Positive
- Decent sculpt for her age.
- Considering the low amount of Chrono Crusade merchandise, I would say it's a must-get for the fans of the franchise.

Neutral
- Packaging is quite generic.

Negative
- 'Dead' looking eyes.
- Some paint letdowns.
- Very bland posing, especially the arms.

The Scores

Sculpting 7/10
Some parts of the sculpt show better in this figure than the other one (such as the upper body and the gun), but that is quickly debunked by things such as cylinder arms and weird looking ears.

Painting 6/10
I would say it's around the same as the other one. Some parts are painted better (upper body details and the gun), but other parts are big letdowns in general for both of these figures (such as the cap).

Posing 4/10
Yeah, on the posing this version of the figure scores dramatically lower. The posing of the body is sto stiff and the left hand is really not acceptable.

Base 7/10
Same as the other one. Not too big or small, but not much special either.

Packaging 7/10
Same as the other one. Pretty generic prize figure design, but the blisters are very high quality and protect the figure well.

Enjoyment 7/10
As a Chrono Crusade fan and completionist, I bought this figure together with the other one when I saw it up for sale about 2 years ago. I do not regret my purchase, but I definitely like this one a lot less than the other one. For me it would have been fine if this prize figure set would have just been ITEM #11155 and ITEM #11156 . I don't really see the need for a second and more boring Rosette.

Conclusion

If you only want one Rosette in your collection, I recommend picking up ITEM #11155 instead. If you don't mind the stiff posing of her legs, this one is still quite okay considering it's age. I don't think I recommend the figure from this review to any other people except for fans of the franchise.

Availability

This one seems to be the same regarding to availability as the other one, they are often sold together too. It's regularly for sale on eBay for around $40 and on Japanese websites for a bit lower. There is a high chance that you have to wait for a while if you rather get her from Japanese sites.

And to finish it!

Currently this figure is in a temporary and cramped display, but I hope to soon have time to rearrange it and make a picture of my Chrono Crusade collection!

For those who read all this way, thank you! My next figure review will be about Nintendo's Mewtwo Amiibo ITEM #300391 . My next blog will probably be one about a DIY food kit!

Cheers o/

Thank you for enjoying the review so much! :)

And yeah, the ending of both the anime and manga is so...tragic. :'( But I love both endings very much in their own way!

She's not perfect at all, but this figure is so nostalgic. :) I still like it very much! ^^
