Notes on my Mandarake experienceNotes on my Mandarake experience

***This serves as a personal note to myself so I can come back and check on certain stores.***
***This post will also be constantly updated with any compliments/issues arising with my orders.***

So I have been a collector a year past now, and Mandarake is my go-to site for many of my figures. They are a good place to get older figures and at pretty good prices too if you are lucky (though figure prices are on the rise nowadays). The service is prompt (confirmation emails are usually received 24-48 hours), and their goods-rating is apparently excellent - where the Japanese grade the box as 'damaged' usually translates into a microscopical fold over the top of the box or an insignificant crease somewhere.

Though I personally think their QC has been on the downward slide recently. I never had any problems with my ordered items last year, but have received items with unexpected, unmentioned major defects FOUR times this year so far (though Mandarake has been gracious enough to respond).

I have ordered with pretty much all of the branch stores, except Ikebukuro.

SAHRA
My first ever Mandarake purchase was from this branch, and I remember the ease in which I had placed my order. The confirmation was prompt (as they are the main warehouse and provide you the transport fees on the spot when you make the order - which is a plus).
The biggest plus point with this store is that once you place an order, that order is for you - and no one is going to beat you to it because SAHRA is a warehouse and there are no customers looking at the items through the window and buying them out in real time.
However, I have noted that their shipping fees are on the high side compared to the other branch stores, probably due to them packing in advance and for the straight-up payment service.
As a result, I usually try to get my items from other stores, and this one is my last resort because I try to get the cheapest deal possible. XD But if you like your payment fast without hassle or waiting and don't want to deal with the possibility of your precious item getting sold out, you will love SAHRA.

NAKANO
This is a good branch, they come up with really good and worthwhile prices for figures at times, and pretty much all my orders with them were smooth.

UMEDA
Good branch and fast efficient service - and the one I have made the most orders with. I received a defected item from them earlier this year, but they responded quickly and sent over a replacement part - which is what I really appreciate more than refunds.

SHIBUYA
Cancelled once with them as I faced a sudden credit card problem and they let me off with a reprimand - very thankful for not getting the blacklist.

COMPLEX (AKIHABARA)
Not one of the better branches, in my opinion. I received a damaged figure from them this year, and they took more than a week to respond (only after I had sent a second email) and offered a tiny refund. When I tried to use the refund on a new order, they cancelled that order. I finally got to use that refund on another order months later, and they went over the top on the shipping fee - the box arrived with more than half the space empty. I don't think I would choose to order with them again, unless they happen to have a figure I really want where no other stores can provide.

GRANDCHAOS
Done some orders with them before, and all good.

KOKURA
This branch has shipping prices which are strangely teeny bit higher than the usual. I have had two orders with higher prices than what I would get with other branches. Maybe due to overpacking, I can't be really sure about it.
Also received one defected item from them this year, but their response was fast and efficient.

NAGOYA
Shipping fees are also definitely on the higher side with this branch (almost of SAHRA standard). But otherwise, my orders with them have been smooth, and despite what I have read online, their customer service is SUPERB and SPEEDY. I sent out a query to them regarding a damaged figure and they responded in less than 24 hours each time.

UTSUNOMIYA
I have bought once from this store, and will NEVER buy again from this branch unless absolutely desperate. I received a damaged (unmentioned in the listing) figure, sent them an email, their reply time was pretty good (within 48 hours) but they refused to take any responsibility for the damage - quoting the status of a secondhand item being prone to such damage. Terrible branch store.

SAPPORO
Done a single order with them before, and payment and shipping was smooth without hassle.

Overall, my orders mostly come from Nakano and Umeda. I highly recommend these two branch stores - very prompt with good prices, and if you run into trouble (especially important), they help you out with everything they can.

Still going to continue ordering from Mandarake for sure, it is by far the best place to get figures for me (I have only meddled with Plamoya sometimes, and strangely have never ordered from Amiami before).

On a funny note, I have been to Japan twice now but was not into figure-collecting then or even knew what Mandarake was - and I believe I have walked past their store before and sometimes I beat myself up for being so slow to catch on to this hobby.
Oh well, here's to visiting Mandarake in the flesh someday.

this is in the flesh mate.
Complex has one of the best customer support when replying but they don't really do anything I guess that's why the state of the customer support on mandarake is so awful lol. With kokura being the worst possibly, and shibuya being the most over priced.
I cancelled one order before in the past, and then I had to cancel again at a much later time because they did not have an item in my order plus the shipping was awful. So I told them to cancel and they blocked my account without even saying and after buying many stuff from them over a year lol what?

nyugvo6 (7 meses atrás) #38574288kokura overcharged me as well. I asked them about it, and now they owe me 1800 yen.
which of course I can use to pay for another overcharged order! haha. ha. ha.

Ah, I knew I wasn't the only one! They gave me store credit for a defected item as well, and I don't know when I will order again from them XD

isbergues (7 meses atrás) #38573662the only time ive ever had a problem with mandarake was with their utsunomiya store. they sent me the wrong item, and even though i contacted them twice over the course of 2 weeks, i never got any response. it was only a loss of about $25, but still really irritating.
Oh dear, that's terrible. Did you direct email to that particular branch? I have seen a lot of people encouraging use of the international mandarake email address for English emails but I personally feel it would slow down the process. Twice I received defected items and twice I emailed the branch Mandarake shop involved, and received responses for both.
And the email has to be sent within a week of receiving the items, according to the rules I remembered reading.

I'm also an indiscriminate buyer, but it's really interesting to see your experiences laid out like this!

I went by myself to explore Nakano Broadway and Akihabara and I will say that the trip was the start of my figure collecting. All the Mandarake stuff in Nakano is super cool.

solluxcaptor (7 meses atrás) #38569523Interesting! I don't usually rank my experiences by branch because I buy indiscriminately but I'll try and add some insight of my own.
Don't we all? :)
