Japanese snack and coffee loot with mini reviews!Japanese snack and coffee loot with mini reviews!

MaakieMaakie12 dias atrásLoot
Not very long ago, I had a craving to get some Japanese coffee. Checking Candysan, I saw that they had a special limited edition of Georgia cans. So I decided to order 2 of each and oh heck, while I was at it, also get some snacks.

Turns out, the coffee was so heavy, Candysan actually shipped it to me as 2 packages, oops! Anyhow, see this blog for everything I got and mini reviews!

Package #1
The package without the coffee arrived earlier.

I'm used to buying 'air' when buying chips, but these...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Ve-XLUcfO7-VF2b1EDN8niA_mdgFuCu5N8HaG4urpEU8MjK3Heojuk0pqzHH1wXICEeflWc6V2MD7CgqBqB9GQsL1YCHxiFDycS2VQWs6JeAAZ8CmENOYc7JMTqRuWMU1BbjIIBIeCPUmOJXCDiNOxCljgFsrHULCwSs2xHEeqtkv1IolooqYW7V5LqEu78k3YAs6cTaCcXFfykYwKBtqi7j3FmRTIyj3EuqqMH3pQlQNAXbcsmFvtf2xVMyZnAOCPVovjedjjy0HGXQnhWHwOCJ2mmk3IfeDeyV88MaynEemYVgSy7Stwb5G0DEyqJFyZpJWqbXu3zpEkQMln4xUIxpsdCn6jyz3DU7kX-KZpZ7JMtwj9idYDrdXUPO_ilLbhIGeVLv9rJ7gcNlzuhy7rvB7vNc85ZeXcBLk4tFosNynUnqH_kdCHkPYuF7iPV9jAIU40aGaZOq5gKKM9yqoS3etznKkPxJ-6SJ4e7Jxwk9oi3wQBNn-g04oyfLNqAWGZWmSanqQr2WH4cPoqHIr5uo4WTfkvc3gvaYQOONabthuXdZaYq_pg5jLGlRX-kO4lzZr8M3VlbvIICQi3SBujxvpVTQ-Cd7Y92R0qGGiOpaYMxxeNwa8ryw9ySt4fs=w755-h966-no?.jpg

...about 25% of the bag was filled? Wow. Anyway, the chips themselves were very nice! Their taste was like a less airy version of Pom Bär:

https://www.germanshop24.com/images/thumbnails/465/465/product/2/777d8d238d57ce2891b2675e48ac9b28.jpg
I'm not sure how well known these are outside of the Netherlands and Germany actually. *edit* STARS_N_KISSES let me know that they also exist in the UK with the name Pom-Bear!

For the people not known with Pom Bär, they are 'puffed' potato chips with a salty flavor. Still, I personally prefer Pom Bär over O'Zack, so if some readers are interested in this flavor, try to see if you can import some Pom Bär instead!

Chip Star - Cheddar Cheese

I've had other Chip Star flavors before and really liked them! They are like smaller and more light Pringles. The cheddar flavor was very strong on these, I recommend them to cheddar fans only!

Pringles - Jalapeño & Onion

Oohh~ These were good! As both a Jalapeño and Onion lover, I needed to try these when I saw them up for sale. The spicyness of the Jalapeño immediately made me crave for some chilli cheese nuggets from Burger King... Anyway, back to these Pringles, they had the perfect amount of spicyness with a slight hint of onion. Definitely recommend if you're into those flavors!

Calbee Satsumarico - Daigaku Imo

Hrmm where to even start on these, they have a very strong smell and I don't mean that in a postive way... I probably should have researched this item more before buying. I personally really like sweet potatoes, but this specific flavor is candied sweet potatoes and oh boy, was this snack a weird mixture of savory and sweet! There is also a bit of a smokey taste and black sesame seeds on them. Anyway, for me, this 'candied' taste was a bit too much. I could only eat half of it before I got sick of it... Only recommended for people that love an explosion of sweet and savory at the same time in their mouth!

Jagabee - Salty

Ahhh back to the good Jagabee again! I have tasted many flavors of Jagabee in all my years of eating Japanese snacks, but it was a really long time since I bought the classic flavor one again. Really recommend! I think it's maybe a local thing to compare them with, but over here we have 'fries sticks', which are potato chips cut into thin fries-shape. These Jagabee's are a better tasting version of it! *edit* MISSPROTOTYPE informed me that that they are probably similar to the North-American snack 'Pik Nik'.

Cheeza Cheddar Cheese

I was prepared for this being super cheesy with the packaging promising 53% cheese, but oh wow, was this even more than I expected! Cheese flavor explosion! It was like I was eating blocks of cheese, but crunchy! And well, although probably quite some people will like that, for me it was a bit too much. I rather keep it to cookies with cheese seasoning, or eating actual cheese, than these weird crunchy cheeses.

As someone that loves chocolate chip cookies, I wanted to try out this variation from Japan! The main difference I tasted between these cookies and the regular local chocolate chip cookies, was that these had quite a bunch of cinnamon added to it (which I personally like). Except for the extra cinnamon, they were not very special, so I don't think I will buy them a second time though.

These 'bake' snacks are advertised as 'non-melt chocolate'. So I expected some sort of soft cookies snack, but how I was wrong! They actually feel like cookies, but almost immideatly melt away once you put them in your mouth! So strange! The chocolate taste was also very strong. The vanilla-cookie on top was melty in a similar way (but melted a bit slower). Personally I like my chocolate more solid, but this was an experience for sure! From what I read online these snacks are meant so that Japanese people can still have chocolate available in their hot summers. So it's probably also an very interesting item for people reading this that live in hot areas!

Another variation of the above one! This one had double chocolate flavor and was very good! The top layer of chocolate melts super fast and the middle layer of chocolate a bit slower.

Looks like Candysan really sticks to 'one omake each order', even when it's so big it becomes 2 boxes, haha!

The coffee cans were wrapped very carefully! I didn't have it so extensively wrapped before when buying coffee from Candysan (maybe because they know these coffee cans are collectibles for some?).

Advertised as 'foamy' cola soda flavor. So they should be a combination of these:

https://media.candystore.com/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/h/a/haribo-cola-bottles-candy-store.jpg

their cola flavor and these

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/80/e8/28/80e828171cd9e88aba254475dee9d722.jpg

their foamy part flavor.

And well, they were exactly that, nothing more nothing less. So they were nice, but a bit too...generic? The foamy part (which stuck to my teeth quite bad) was also a lot bigger than the cola part, so the flavor was not as intense as I hoped. Not bad candy, but wouldn't recommend to import them. Especially because they were quite expensive for the amount of candies you got (I think there were only ~10 gummies inside the packaging).

Advertised as 'just normal coke and zero with lemon, but without any food colorings' (for the people not known with it: cola is actually a clear drink and manufacturers have tried to change the color or release it without color many times, but peoples seem to keep on falling back to preferring the dark brown/black color of the drink). This drink itself was very nice, althought quite different from the Coke Zero with Lemon we have over here. It was less sweet and more lemon-y. It could be that this is a psychological reaction because of the drink being clear, though! Also, this thing was packed with carbonic acid, wow! When I opened the bottle it let out a super hard 'pop' and after that kept on being sparkling for a really long time (for sure longer than the locally sold Coca-Cola). It maybe also has to do with the way the top closes, which is different than our local Coca-Cola. If you're a soda (or specifically cola) fan, I would recommend this one as it's quite different from what I've tried from different Western countries their Coca-Cola offerings (I love picking up weird cola variants, my personal favorite being Blue Pepsi).

The artworks I got was a can with Ichigo from Bleach and one with Kinnikuman. It tastes like Americano coffee, so it tastes a but a bit watered down, but still strong.

The artworks were one with Nami from One Piece and one with Piccolo from Dragon Ball (really love the artwork from Piccolo!). The taste is regular coffee with a bit of milk, slightly bitter.

I got bamboozled with the same artwork on both the Café au Lait cans, but the Dragon Ball artwork is nice, though! The taste of this one surprised me the most, because it tastes exactly like UCC Coffee with milk, one of my favorites and one that is harder to import nowadays. So now I have found a similar replacement to order every once in a while!

Overall, the taste of all of these coffee cans was very good, but what stuck with me the most was how high on caffeine these seemed to be! Especially considering the cans are half the size of our local canned coffees. So if you like quick energy boosts with a good taste in small cans, this brand is for you! If you rather have a big drink, I would rather go for UCC.

Finish

Except for one item, I ate/drank all of them with quite some enjoyment, so I would say this was a good loot!

I'm not familiar with the 'Emerald Mountain Blend' flavor, so I looked it up and they describe it as 'a perfect balance of coffee, sugar and milk', soooo...it's similar to the Premium Café au Lait I guess?

no idea XDD he only sent me this cafe cause of Ryoma on the Can xD he knows I'm a huge Ryoma fan XD but caned cafe is disgusting tbh xD

FYI the reason why chip bags have a lot of air in them is to prevent them from oxidizing and also work as a protective cushion during shipping. If you read the amount/grams/w.e metric system on the packaging, weighed the chips inside, the amount will be spot on/pretty close to what the packaging says.

So, sure it sucks and it's fun to meme on the notion of "I thought a bought a bag of chips but instead I bought a bag of air", but in actuality it says the actual weight amount on the label and you're really being charged for that amount.

missprototype (11 dias atrás) #40177733Very well done review! It's very fun to see people's reactions to new things, although it's definitely a different take versus the loot boxes I see floating around which has a higher hit or miss rate due to it being really random :0
As for the fries sticks you mentioned, they may be similar to the US version of pik niks? They have the same description as you described but possibly thinner in shape. Overall, cool stuff tho!

Oh this is nothing like a loot box, I handpicked everything myself. :) But it's just a gamble sometimes because you don't know how much you will like certain things. For example those sweet potato snacks, normally I like sweet potatoes, but these...*shivers*

I never ate Pik Niks, but I googled them and they certainly do look the same! So I think it's the same/similar. :) I will add it to the blog!

Thanks for liking the blog! :)

insanecha (11 dias atrás) #40158278Nice loot!

Thank you! :)

IntoOpenWaters (11 dias atrás) #40159917I'm usually not into loot posts that aren't anime figure-centric, but you managed to rope me in lol. I'm a big fan of Jagabee (they sell them at my local Daiso, and I struggle not to buy them frequently), and I also couldn't handle the taste of Cheeza...It was just too strong of a flavor. I once picked up some butter crackers (not sure what they were called, but they were shaped like zoo animals). I assumed they would be similar to butter cookies I can get at any grocery store in the US.
I shit you not, it was like eating a spoonful of butter with a crunch. I ate one and gave the rest away.
I'll have to give some of these snacks a try! I'm especially interested in the Clear Coke and the Bake chocolate. I don't think US Coke has a flavor with lemon, but I've tried cola candies with additional lemon flavoring, and they were great, so I'd like to try it in liquid form. Where I live it's only hot for about two months so chocolate isn't too big of a problem, but I'm just fascinated by the idea of those Bake chocolates.
Great post! Almost every time I try new Japanese snacks I end up hating them, so it's nice to read reviews about them. I look forward to reading more!

I'm glad to read you enjoyed my blog! :)

Oh man, am I sort-of glad I can't get Jagabee locally...I would buy so much! And yikes about that butter cracker Cheeza! That sounds exactly like my crunchy cheese, but yours was crunchy butter! *shivers*

That is interesting about the Coca Cola, because in my country Coca-Cola with Lemon is a regular thing:

http://enacademic.com/pictures/enwiki/67/Coke_lemon.JPG

Although Coca-Cola Clear definitely had a ton more lemon than our local one!

Lol, feel free to share a list (if you have it) of Japanese snacks I should avoid. Considering this stuff isn't cheap I would like to hear! :)

Not sure yet when I will buy new snacks/drinks, as this loot was pretty expensive with all that heavy coffee, so I will wait for a while more. ;) There is a list at the bottom of the blog if you would like to read up on older snack blogs from me if you're interested!

The review however is a good reminder I really to order some things from candysan already. I'm so often on the fence whenever or not to order there sometime there despite their cheaper prices

Oh! Interesting to know that Pom-Bear also exists. :) So now I know of 3 countries with those snacks! Will add it in the review. :)

If you're interested, I could send a friend code which gives both of us a discount at Candysan, for that I need your e-mailaddress and the full name you would make the order on. You can PM me about that if you want! ^^

I'm usually not into loot posts that aren't anime figure-centric, but you managed to rope me in lol.
