Spice & Wolf Wedding Dress HoloSpice & Wolf Wedding Dress Holo

Howdy doo, everybody! Time for another figure review with loads of unnecessary photobombs! Today we will be looking at figure related to one of my personal favorite series. A series that I would say is an important, yet underrated gem. Today we will be looking at this wedding dress figure of Holo from Spice & Wolf by Myethos and Tokyo Otaku Mode. Click on any image to go to the picture page where you can view it in full resolution for a close look.

The box is very lovely and decorative. The box graphics are illustrated with a wheat fields and her bouquet on the front. The windows decorated with reflective gold framing. The top and bottom of the box feature the show's logo and an illustration of a parchment featuring Lawrence Kraft.

This also comes with a bonus postcard featuring the illustration by Ayakura Jyuu which this figure is based on. This illustration was featured on the cover of the 2011 Spice & Wolf art book.

Now let's take a look at the figure itself. Holo is prancing around playfully with a gleeful smile in her wedding dress across the flowery meadow base. She is holding a bouquet filled with sunflowers, lilies and whatever the round purple things are called. I normally don't have much interest in wedding dress themed figures, but I couldn't resist this one because A: it is hard to say no to Spice & Wolf, B: this figure is just so cheerful and pleasant to look at.

This figure was a Tokyo Otaku Mode exclusive backer project. I unfortunately did not pre-order due to being on vacation and forgetting to place an order. But I managed to snag this on Ebay for about $146 in in October.

Her dress is painted with a pearly white and is very glossy. It also has a slight amount of glitter added to the paint. It is the same for her shoes. There have been some complaints about the arm with the bouquet sagging down after a while. I got this second hand on Ebay in October, but I have yet to experience this problem myself. Then again, my home is usually kept around 68 - 72 degrees, so that might be helping in preventing this problem.

The frills and inside the skirt are especially lovely. All the folds and creases have been concisely sculpted with lots of shading. The coloring here also complements Holo's tail, which is also very well painted. Holo has much pride in her tail, so it is fitting that it has the most shading out of any other part of the figure.

Myethos did a great job with Holo's face. The eyes and mouth bear a strong resemblance to the art style of the illustration. Her ears and flowered hair ornament are nicely detailed as well. The urge to boop the spicy wolf ears is rising. o3o

They did an especially great job with her hair. Her amber brown hair has been shaded beautifully and has been perfectly posed to give the appearance of being blown and waved around in the wind. This may be one of the best heads of hair of all the figures in my collection.

The flowers in the bouquet are nicely detailed. The green leafage is not bad, but clearly not as detailed as the rest of the figure. They are a basic sculpt for the shape of the leafage, a single shade of green and no further details added. Be careful when unpacking the figure. It is packed with a piece of plastic between the dress and the bouquet that was very hard to remove. You could easily break something if you are not careful.

The base is very pretty. Highly detailed and textured, lots of shading, and the colors really pop out. I always enjoy when a figure has a dynamic environment themed base instead of a disc with stylized graphics. It feels much more natural and organic to the figure's presentation.

I am extremely satisfied with this figure. My Spice & Wolf collection is sadly rather small, but this gorgeous figure will no doubt remain the centerpiece for this part of my collection. There is nothing about this figure I don't like. The one thing I would note is how to handle this figure when picking it up. It is a tad top heavy and her thin legs will make it wobble a bit when moving the figure. When picking it up, I would recommend you hold it by the skirt and set the figure down slowly and gently.

Options to get this figure in the aftermarket are limited and expensive, as is the case with any Spice & Wolf merchandise. Your best bet will be to stalk Ebay. Most offers go for the $200 range. But if you are lucky, you might be able to snag one in an auction for much less like I did.

Thank you for taking the time to read this review. I hope you will manage to add this lovely and wise wolf to your collection someday. See you all next time. I'll soon be posting my November loot and a special article showing the adventures of my Kirby Nendoroids joining me on my Carnival Cruise vacation.

victorviper (3 meses atrás) #46335459Interesting. I didn't follow the evolution of this figure, so I didn't realize there were originally stands under her heels. The way one of heels is off the base, is there any concern about figure lean, given the obvious mass of her wedding dress?
I haven't heard anyone complain of the figure leaning (just the arm holding the bouquet drooping from the weight). Mine is still in its box so I wouldn't know. I did take her out for a bit to examine her and she seemed stable.

The whole TOM Project thing was interesting. I'm trying to remember what else they improved thanks to user feedback. On top of the things I said earlier, they also made the flowers and base look more realistic (before they didn't have much texture), her fangs are more prominent, and her tail is perked up higher (looked droopy before). I think they also improved the dress, but I'm not sure what it was like before... if I remember right, the layers of fabric looked too thick, but now they are thinner and more natural looking. Myethos and TOM really went above and beyond to make sure people would be happy with the final product, and the result is wonderful.

Cantisama (3 meses atrás) #46334514I have her as well and she truly is lovely. It was cool to see her design evolve during the TOM project as they kept updating her based on user feedback, such as adding white to her ears and removing the visible stands from under her shoes. If only other manufacturers would listen to the community so closely, we could get more beauties like this.
It would be fun to display her with ITEM #464725 + ITEM #287860

Interesting review as always. I hadn't really Holo's tail in any of the other user photos of this figure, but her tail of course is such a key part of any Holo figure.

I like how you incorporated Nendo Holo into some of your shots :).
