Ram Shiromuku Ver. by FuRyu F:NEX

Hello MFC, this is a quick review on Ram Shiromuku Ver. by FuRyu F:NEX. If you have not read the Rem review (BLOG #42650), you can choose to read it first. Although it is not required, I won't be going into detail for the parts I have done so for Rem's review. Images were taken by phone so please tolerate the sub-par photos.

BOX/PACKAGING
The box's 3 sizes are L33 x W30 x H39(cm), a little larger than Rem's box, shipped via EMS at 3620 grams. There is an instruction slip inside on how to assemble Ram.

ASSEMBLY/POSING

The figure is supported by 2 pegs (on Ram's foot) fitted into the base. It is relatively easy to slot the umbrella into her hand. There is a sweet spot where the wataboshi headpiece can set on the head. The base is a bright red with gold threading, which colour also coincides with the underside of the kimono, exactly the same as Rem's base.

Compared to Rem, Ram requires you to snugly fit both pegs, it may require gentle care to prevent the peg from breaking.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/05/2380529.jpeg

After fitting both pegs, you'll realise that one side of her kimono is resting on her base. All that's required is to slide the placeholder under her kimono.

There's a little gap on her shoulder to rest the umbrella pole.

SCULPTING

Ram's shiromuku is generally the same with Rem's shiromuku. The details on the hair is excellent.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/05/2380538.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/05/2380539.jpeg

However, compared to Rem, Ram's kimono has no yellowish-tinted white shading. Some parts seemed a little questionable to me. The dark red shading to account for the shadows from the folds in the kimono is less prominent compared to Rem's.

DIFFERENCES COMPARED TO REM

As mentioned above, Ram's kimono has no yellowish-tinted white shading unlike Rem's kimono. The dark red shading to account for the shadows from the folds in the kimono is less prominent compared to Rem's.

The biggest difference compared to Rem's shiromuku is that, Ram's shiromuku comes with a 'Great Whale' background, fully extended at 69cm long x 28 cm tall. Impressively detailed.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/05/2380525.jpeg

Sounds good till I realised it can't fit in a DETOLF.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/05/2380540.jpeg

Other differences include the slight transparency in Ram's fringe with a glossy outlook. Rem's fringe is a solid colour.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/04/29/2204823.jpeg

Another small difference is that Ram's kimono has more flex than Rem's kimono, supposedly to allow the placement of the placeholder.

DISPLAY ISSUES

It is impossible to fit both Rem and Ram, side by side, in a DETOLF. I will not be including the 'Great Whale' background because the folds will take up too much space and compromise on the display quality.

However, if you elevate Rem's shiromuku about 1.5cm higher than Ram's shiromuku, it can be possible to place them side by side.

CONCULSION/ENJOYMENT (some parts copied from Rem's review)

A Japanese bride traditionally wears a white dress and a special white headpiece known as "wataboshi". In Japan white traditionally symbolizes death. In context of wedding white symbolizes the end of one living as single person and the start of new life in marriage. A bride wears white kimono called "shiromuku". In Japanese word "shiro" means white and "muku" means pure. Shiromuku kimono is worn without "obi" over white "kakeshita" wedding kimono. Kakeshita kimono includes patterns with different symbols like for example cranes. Cranes are birds where a couple stays together for life. [ Source: weddings.tradit...] <- Seems like source is dead, to find more info, try google.

While there have been improvements in Ram's shiromuku, from the transparent and glossy outlook of her fringe, and the increased flex which may save it from breaking off from impact. There was a 'drop' in quality due to the lack of shading, which was immediately apparent when compared to Rem's shiromuku.

It is as if Rem's shiromuku was planned as a one-off standalone release for collectors to display on a 360 degree rotating base, while Ram's shiromuku only serves to exist as Rem's complement in a front-facing collection (hence the lack of shading).

The 'Great Whale' background is a nice addition, but is of little value to collectors who store their collection in a DETOLF, because it is too large to fit in a DETOLF properly.

Overall, Ram's shiromuku is a disappointment for me. What could be a masterpiece like Rem's shiromuku, was instead a lazy 'replicate'. Maybe I should have expected that when the 'Great Whale' background was included but MSRP remained the same, resulting in a compromise in the quality of the figure in order for FuRyu to have the same profit margin.

While Rem and Ram still look spectacular in display, but comes the question, will the rest of F:NEX's Shiromuku series have shading like Rem's, or Ram's? Rem's shiromuku has set a high bar that the upcoming shiromuku's may not be able to surpass.

MY THANKS

Thanks for reading the entirety of the review. Please share your thoughts on the figure regardless if you have bought it.

bioproto6 meses atrás#75248446Thank you for the review. What are the support beams you used to raise the figure?

It is this item ITEM #217625, you can find it www.amazon.co.j... or www.plazajapan.... . They used to sell it on AmiAmi but they don't stock it anymore. To elevate 1.5cm/15mm, just 1 of the above mentioned item is enough.

They also have a 4mm thick version as well. If you want longer/extra support beams ITEM #382460 (www.amazon.co.j...) which I have used in the picture.

She's pretty! But idk why the sculpted pattern in the kimono turns me away~ I really
wish they would've stuck to a glossy sticker pattern instead.

That will be plenty appreciated. Kinda like my Rem & Ram F:Nex boxes though, they kinda give off a 'premium' vibe for being so big.
SebastianLover6 meses atrás#75187863It's a little disappointing that Ram is not as detailed as Rem, but I've been enjoying the F:Nex line as a whole enough to even get figures of characters I hate (not Ram or Rem btw so put the pitch forks down).
That's interesting about the Japanese wedding outfit. I never knew white symbolized death. I guess that's why ghosts are depicted as wearing white. I never thought a review would be educational.XD

I didn't like the series but I thought Re:Zero's character design was quite clever.
Just wanted to add some context to the review. :D
Cantisama6 meses atrás#75187960Great review. You really went detailed in comparing her to Rem Shiromuku. Nice solution to displaying them together in a tight space.
Rem Shiromuku definitely sets a bar that is hard to match. FuRyu currently has shiromukus of Asuna ITEM #871529 and Yukino ITEM #872789 in development, along with Rikka ITEM #806116 announced. It will be interesting to see if the quality of those will match Rem or Ram. Asuna's pose seems too close to Rem's to be interesting (though that's fine if you didn't pick up Rem already), while Yukino has potential to be something special.
Anyway, this Ram definitely looks great with Rem. I wonder if they'll finish off the set with Emilia.

Well, there was not much to write since it was quite similar to Rem's shiromuku. If you have a larger custom display shelf you won't need to forcibly squeeze them together.
I was planning on getting the Yukino you mentioned + Yuigahama + Isshiki Combo and Sanshokuin (ITEM #872891), but I'll be reconsidering after looking at Ram.
Ram's shiromuku is not terrible in absolute terms, she still has some shading in the front and in some edges, but the back of her kimono just didn't have any shading which Rem's has.
Don't think I'll get Emilia if they announce it, but lets see how it goes. 3 more days to Wonfest.
