So some of you may remember that last year I bought MegaHouse's 1/6 Tamaki and couldn't stop talking about her. Hell, she would have won my 2019 Best Figure award if she was actually made in 2019. So, impressive for an old figure. If you want to see my review of her, see here. If you want to know more about why she's weird, see here.

If you want to see her cosplaying a burrito, see here.

Anyhow, I was looking at my Tamaki the other day and thought to myself,

"You know what would make her better? If she was three times larger, had a seamless body, and costed over a thousand dollars!".

Yes, I've been bitten by the 1/3 doll bug. Ball-jointed dolls, that's the term right? I was happy with just having my MegaHouse Tamaki but all my friends on Discord started getting into Dollfie Dream and this made me go, "me wanty big dollie". While I'm happy with my Tamaki I always felt left out when my friends started to show off their Rankos and it made me feel like the kid who went to play Transformers on the playground but only bought Mini-Cons while everyone else was running around with their Optimus and Starscream. That did happen to me when I was a kid, true story.

So, what do I do when I'm facing inadequacy? I do what Zoids Fanatic 2.0 does best! Something incredibly stupid!

Well, my credit card statement is going to be a bitch this month. Yes, as I implied in the opening paragraph I bought my own 1/3 doll. And of Tamaki... because it's always Tamaki. Now I could have gone with the Dollfie. After all it's nice, it's pretty, and at the end of the day it's still Tamaki. Instead I went with this Tamaki.

I honestly don't know if that swimsuit is included.

Instead of going for the Dollfie I went for the one that was seamless because as we know silicon is always a reliable substance that never has issues like cracking or tearing. Especially not for a doll that's 11 years old from a company that seemingly vanished and barely put out any other products either!

My mindset, essentially.

Well there isn't really any turning back now, she's paid for and is on the way. So I can actually write about her hopefully sometime this week if DHL wants to be fast... and also assuming if she's not buck naked either. Now I could go on about everything else related to BJDs but for now, let's just focus on Tamaki because for you younger readers out there you may not know who she is. And that's a shame. So gather round, children, it's story time!

So, Tamaki. A character who was really popular back in the mid-to-late 2000s. Seriously, she's like one of the OG waifus. Before all your new-fangled Rems or Hesitas or Pac-Men, there was Tamaki. It's impressive of how popular she was given her actual canon-personality is rather... well it's not bad by any means but not really remarkable compared to other female characters. Hell, despite what her figures might imply she's not even slutty. Yes, in the X-rated games she will get her tits out and fuck you, but in the non-X rated games she's more of a tease. Which I appreciate!

She can also crush a man's skull with one hand. I also appreciate that!

Anyhow, cutting a long story short, Tamaki is from the popular To Heart 2 franchise, the sequel to To Heart which was also quite popular. Given the franchise is a dating sim/visual novel/porn game, she's one of the routes you could take. So despite there being plenty of women in To Heart 2, Tamaki is by far the most popular. So popular, in fact, that you'll find her figures tend to hold their price. The Max Factory Tamaki can still demand over one hundred dollars on the secondary market. And yes, I said Max Factory. The Figma people. Maybe they should go back to scales?

I find it funny how popular she is still to this day from a franchise that's twenty years old. Well, I say "popular". You're not going to see anyone cosplaying as her these days, but if you say her name to a certain selection of anime fans you're going to have one person go off on how great Tamaki is. She's certainly still held her charm after all these years and compared to even "current" waifus. Show of hands, who remembers Angela?

As said, writing wise she's.... OK. At its heart, To Heart is a romance game and Tamaki fills the role of childhood friend who's also an older sister who's also rich who's also popular and who's also great at playing the piano and who's also great at Japanese fine arts and OK this is now getting ridiculous what the fuck isn't she good at? I guess this is one of her big charms, she doesn't really fit into one particular "mold". Yeah she's rich, but still friendly. Yeah she's a tease, but she's caring. Yeah she's an older-sister type, but hasn't been ruined by the Ara-Ara meme. Hell, her worst trait is being in a visual novel game where the main protagonist is as personable as cardboard.

So this might explain why she has five 1/3 dolls. No I don't know why one's a blonde, I didn't make the entry. But still, five giant dolls. Not to mention the hundreds of figures of assorted merchandise she received over the years. Her popularity has fallen, as you could reasonably guess, but there is still a core group of fans out there including myself. Maybe I'll share the story of how I "met" Tamaki later?

Anyhow, I think this article has gone on for longer than it needed to. That was a quick rundown of Tamaki and also a quick P.S.A that I've gotten into the BJD fandom so expect me to not shut the fuck up about that for the next several months to years.

So that's it for me today. I'm ZF2, enjoy this deadly birb.

I just started with bjd's in March and I told myself I only wanted one doll.
Well, now I have two and maybe want a third and of course they all need cute clothes and wigs and shoes and accessories and and and and...

It's such a fun hobby but of course extremely expensive.
I thought figure collecting was bad (heh) but I didn't realize how fast I can drop $300 on clothes and shoes for dollfies in a month until I checked my bank account and poof!

But really, it is super exciting and I've only been in the bjd community 3-ish months and it's really awesome <3 so congrats!

Hey now, don't diss Angela Ballsack. Her surname will make her unforgettable xD

P.S. Tamaki is the only girl who has broken my "1 figure of each character" rule by far, which pretty much underlines the statement in the topic. I'm looking at 5 figures of her grouped together as we speak. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some inspecting to do. For science!

Thanks for the history lesson on the To Heart franchise. I bought a garage kit (ITEM #19802) of a To Heart girl because she looked beginner friendly and her price was cheap. I knew nothing about the franchise when I discovered the figure. I did however watched one episode that featured her since I wanted to know the character better. Spoiler alert, she has psychic powers! Besides, I am a sucker for kuuderes and purple haired girls. Looking forward to photos of your Tamaki.

Let us know how it goes. Honestly going the Dollfie Dream route would have been a lot more dangerous. One turned into a few. Whoops.

No, really a case of everyone because as said I now have an excuse to not shut up about these. And Tamaki.

I'd really love to see you review her when you get her! Personally I'm a huge fan of Dollfie Dream and I've been interested in getting a seamless body someday.

That is not a BJD. But congrats on your purchase.
