I was feeling bored through homework, and suddenly had the random idea to search for my first encounter with yaoi xD Namely, this Digimon fanfic: web.archive.org... <-- had to use wayback machine, lol xD Although it warned me with 'LEMON' ("yay a fruit!") before I clicked it, I was a thirteen year old internet n00b, and just started reading... xD T'was awesome, though very wierd! xDD Tai/Yamato quickly became my first OTP after that x3

So what was your first encounter or pairing? You don't have to find links, but if you can still discribe it... xD
D-don’t worry. A-all we have to do is find a t-t-t-time machine. - Gintoki, Gintama

Ok, let me remember when all have started...
In my early days I was a big fan of Yu Yu Hakusho (and still am I!) and there were always someone talking about Kurama x Hiei. At that time I didn't have access to internet, so I never had seen a real doujinshi. After this came CCS and Toya x Yukito (I love this couple!), but still didn't see a doujin, I was surfing the web for the first times and only saw some pics, only light things. And then Fuuma x Kamui, Seishirou x Subaru (CLAMP rules!)... But when I got my first computer (circa 5 years ago) I was totally crazy about Death Note, and was downloading everything I found about L and Light, so came the doujins... and those doujins. I was, wow! this is... hot XD! lots of smut, PWP, hahahaha. My first real BL manga was Gravitation. But I prefer Murakami's doujins, Remixes are funnier, Megamix has some incredible detailed and heavy stuff, but I can't stand shota.
That's it, quite trivial beginning, and today most of manga I read is BL or has some BL fanservice (like Ouran, Kuroshitsuji, Otomen...) - I simply realize I can't stand most of female chars, they annoy me, and see male on male is so much more exciting, yaoi is perfect =D

Actually my first BL was real XD
When I was 12 I watched the movie 'Beautiful Thing' en.wikipedia.or... lol I bought the movie a few years ago, its like a memento for me XD
Same year I read my first yaoi, Zetsuai by Ozaki Minami <3 <3 so I guess my first paring was Koji x Izumi XD

Note. I'm older so when I was 12 it was harder to find something yaoi or shounen ai, even on the internet u.u

These days I read almost everything XD I even own some mangas made by male mangakas... wow and this ones dont have any censor O_o
But I also read lots of other non yaoi/shounen ai mangas(not hentai or yuri/shoujo ai), like seinen, shonen, etc.

Hmmm, it was a long time ago now but I guess my first encounter with BL was with Escaflowne, when me and my sister randomly drew a picture of Allen as Rapunzel with Gaddess as the prince. Then came fanfiction, mostly of Kai x Rei from Beyblade. My first encounter with original BL was Card Captor Sakura and then Gravitation and the scanlation group Mochi*Mochi. I've never really been to much of a fan of PWP or anything really hardcore, though I'll admit I do read some, I just prefer cute fluffy romances with as little angst as I can get!

I read a lot of BL Manga, but I also collect Doujinshi (Yubinbasya is my GOD!). My current favorite Manga-ka are Homerun Ken, Kyuugou, Jaryuu Dokuro, Takatsuki Noboru and Hyouta Fujiyama.

Gravitation = <3 I was a bit weirded out at first, but the way the storyline was handled was lovely. It was a love story and not just smut. *Chuckles* After watching a lot of anime (even avoiding hentai and all other manner of smut), your tolerance for what is considered "weird" really changes. XD I love reading/watching love stories and am not really interested in seeing the physical act of love (whether heterosexual or homosexual). For the most part, I don't bother for the fanfic or doujinshi world. Fanfics tend to be rather lame and I can't read doujinshi, so I treat them like artbooks if I even bother.

I can't really remember which of these events came first, but both of them led me to be the crazy yaoi fangirl that I am today.

XD Oddly enough, I had a similar experience as the OP, where I happened across a Digimon fanfiction and was oddly taken by it, though I had to have been like 11 so I was a bit weirded out. So I tried not to make a big deal out of it.

Then when I used to watch Yu-gi-oh religiously, I thought that Yugi/Jonouchi were a great couple. Fanart searching ensued.

Later on, I was googling Naruto fanart because, believe it or not, when I first became a fan of the series there were NO naruto pictures on the internet. Yeah, really. Like, when you typed 'naruto' into photobucket or google, you didn't get anything relevant save for about one page of pictures that were just manga scans. So I found a japanese fansite of really cute SasuNaru fanart and just fell in love with it.

And all that leads up to me being the freak that I am today. 8D

My first Yaoi/slash fanfiction was a Harry Potter/ Draco Malfoy fanfiction, after that I just had to see/ read more. I ended up watching Loveless and Gravitation, reading Puzzleshipping (Yami / Yugi) fanfictions ended up being one of my favorite pass times.

I think it was a Saint Seiya fanfiction, this anime was popular in Brazil, so there was a lot of fics in portuguese. Later I've watched Gravitation and started to look for more BL manga and anime.

ah, i think my first shounen-ai was probably gravitation the anime (then i went looking for the manga XD). But it wasn't really the bl that made me like it/watch it, in fact that didn't really start to make me into a yaoi fan at all. I liked the plot and that was why I continued it.
Also because I'm open-minded and don't mind what kind of anime I watch as long as it isn't mindless/pointless fanservice or other mindless thing. So yea, I'm not bothered by gore, lovey-dovey stuff, cliches, erm...some blatant scenes (yep have seen some pretty bad stuff in manga), yaoi, or yuri.
But even though I didn't become a yaoi-loving girl, I still absolutely adore quite a few yaoi series and went to hunt them down if I had to, but never went looking for doujinshi for a pairing just yet. I've liked quite a few boy pairings as FRIENDS though, and it was oddly enough, The Count of Monte Cristo anime that really made me imagine up a yaoi pairing for the first time. Well, maybe Kyou Kara Maou did too, but that was because there was really nothing but boys in the series and it was inevitable for me to pair boys together if there were no suitable girls. (Conrad X Yuri <3)
I just thought FranzXAlbert was very fitting due to their personalities and damn, Franz really gave of some vibes of more than just friendship somewhere in the anime (that I won't mention cause it'd be a huge spoiler if you haven't watched it) and then Monte CristoXAlbert was my second favorite pairing (their both so angsty >.<)
Ah... I'm not hardcore yaoi-fan but the things I love related to it, I do indeed love a lottttttt. So I guess I'm a only-picks-some-yaoi-things-addict XD.
I wonder what I'm categorized as in terms of yaoi fans, seeing as how I'm no pursuing it unless it's something I come upon and like.

    Sorry for writing so much. ^.^;

I was browsing on a manga download site where the genres were pretty much mixed up. I mean they used 'ecchi' for all sexual content. No 'hentai', 'yaoi', 'yuri', just 'ecchi'. I didn't read the review just downloaded the manga and while I was reading it I realized it's not about a boy and a girl but about two boy. XD But actually I liked it much better than any shoujo/ecchi stuff I've read before. Anyway, it was Koi wa Ina Mono Myouna Mono. Not the manga of my life but back then it was fine. :)

Though years before the first yaoi experience I already read some homoerotic novel. :)

    SaRu I love that movie!

My first BL was the Last Herald-Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey. I was absolute in love with these books. The funny thing is my Grandmother the first volume from a garage sale for $0.50 and I'm pretty sure she had no idea what it was about.

Lol XD I can't believe your grandmother bought it without knowing what it was. Hmmm. Makes me tempted to go borrow that book now and read it. I'll check out the summary first =].

Its a really good series. The cover was pretty innocent so there was no obvious clues pointing to BL.

My first yaoi manga was Zetsuai...there was nothing else BL published in my country back then and I hated it with a passion. A friend of mine liked it a lot though so i sometimes read her books just to rant. At first I thought that the problem i had with it was the fact that they were 2 guys. So I stayed away from shounen-ai for quite some time.
Some years later when the interent got more popular I found a FFVII doujin with Cloud and Sepiroth which I kinda liked. Soon after that Naruto started and I watched the anime and started reading doujins for it, mainly sasunaru in the beginning and then I read more and more yaoi doujins and got addicted ^^
it was then that I realised that my problem back then wasn't the fact that there are two gay guys...the problem was simply the story and drawing style. This romantic emo drama and the huge guys with giant shoulders and tiny heads and hips.
Most original yaoi stories are like that, that's why i'm reading mainly doujins and love them XD

erm..SaRu mentioned before that some yaoi drawn by men is uncensored. Just to clarify that..in this case they were either not drawn by a japanese artist or produced for the international market. It has nothing to do with the fact that the artist is male. Uncensored pornographic pictures are simply forbidden to print in Japan being it drawn by a man or a woman doesn't matter. It's against the law. (yes..even if you're of legal age..it makes no difference..censore has to be there)

Yes Japan has other laws with these, that's a known fact(main reason why Sensitive Pornograph, Legend of the Blue wolves, etc.. are uncensored in the US DVD version, drawn/real porn) ... I'll take pics of the mangas I'm talking about later... when I have time.
Yaoi done by men tends to be raw, style and everything.. there are a few women.. but still.

And it depends on the publishing house.. libre tends to be more.. censorish?... June not so much, etc they can just add a little dot to the penis and that's all... lol that kind of censor XDD
